I'm certainly not a sprinter when it comes to running; my body is better suited to long distance. However, most of it is training your body to be used to it. I ran cross country in high school, and now running for long distances doesn't really faze me.

Not to be rude, but this is like asking if you naturally bench or squat as much as you do now without working hard at it.

Getting the fitness to run fast over longer distances is pretty tough though.

Tim: :49: Endurance does seem to be an alien concept to most people, and a lot of times those who can run for a long time are built for it, so the question doesn't bother me too much. But you're absolutely right; what exactly does endurance mean? Our cross country coach once said something like, "You've got these guys going out and running for an hour and a half and coming back with a big hardon for themselves. I'm not impressed; it's about your effort, not how long you can run." Sometimes longer 'easier' days are necessary, but the impressive days should be the 3-5 mile race pace days, not the 6-10 mile easier days! Now if only I could do ten miles at race pace...

Serb: Yeah...very slowly :ughfingers: I've been cheating a lot with the holiday weekend and other family events, but I'm mostly on track. Once I get moved in to where I'm going to spend the rest of the summer I'll get serious.

Did a scheisseload of cardio today. First I laid out in the sun :gaygay:, then I went and practiced my tennis skills (read no ability whatsoever) against the practice wall up at the school, ran for 25 minutes up at the school, came home, ate, went and played sand volleyball and showed off my skills (read awesome goodness), and then played tennis with some friends.

Snuck into one of the gyms at my high school today. It was funny, I ran into the basketball coach and he's like, "Does somebody know you're in here?" "Uh...Mr. Phillips." "Oh, OK" :49:

Anyway, I did a full body session. It was really cool to talk with the basketball coach. He started asking me advice since I guess I looked like I knew what I was doing. He asked me if I knew any ways to increase your vertical leap (since he knew I played volleyball too) and I talked about what little I knew. He also showed me his plan for his kids' lifting program. It was pretty basic, but it was basically what you wanted for strength (full body three days a week with mostly compound movements) so I told him it looked good to me, and I explained why. I guess a lot has rubbed off on me from this site. Thanks, everyone :hsughr:

^^ Well, I lost a bit of strength on everything, which is to be expected. I only got out like 275 lbs x 2-3 on squat, 275 lbs x 4 on deadlift, 225 lbs x 5 on bench press...just weaker all around. DB shoulder press went really well but that's a crapshoot for me :49: Despite this, I think I'm maintaining muscle mass pretty good on my upper body. Lower body with all the running is a different story...but my legs are still bigger now than they were at the beginning of last summer so we'll see how that goes.

At least you got back in the gym! And those lifts aren't too shabby considering the time away.

i think that sounds pretty good:)just eat alot of healthy food and u wont lose to much mass. Last summer vacation i was away from training for like a month, mostly drinking and doing all other things, but i tried to eat alot all the time and when i got back it didnt take to long until i was back into it again, didnt loose to much muscle either, offcourse a little here and there, but u know muscle memory:D it gets back soon when u start out for real again:xyxthumbs:

Rocky: Thanks, that's how I'm looking at it.

Bulkboy: Yeah, I'm hoping once I start maintaining it'll come back a bit.

Miami: I like cardio :xyxthumbs:

Speaking of which:

Running: 39 minutes
Easy pace...my quads are still killing me from squats two days ago. I wasn't going to go for very long, but about 15 minutes in I still felt pretty good so I went further. Then about 20 minutes in I started to get stomach cramps :49: Oh well, pushed through it, then did some abs and pullups.

More cardio:

Running: 30 minutes
Medium pace, quads are still sore but getting better.

Also did some abs and a few other random exercises.

^^ Uh...it's honsetly not bad. I don't imagine it's the best for hypertrophy, but that's not my main concern right now. Honestly if my quads and hamstrings are sore, I find a good run will loosen them up and make them feel better. Calves are another story.

I try to do something cardio related at least 6 days a week. If it's something low impact I don't mind going 7 days a week (like sand volleyball, a light bike ride, or Sara ).

Beno: One can only hope :gayaway:

Rocky: No, just you

Dstan: Lol, thanks man. I'm used to it is all.

Alright then, put in an upper body day at the crappy gym here. Some guy walked in halfway through my workout and started right off with what? Ding-ding-ding! Bicep curls was the correct answer!

Anyway, got a decent workout in, then I went swimming with my girlfriend. I did an individual medley at one point; it wasn't even a full 200 yards because the pool is short, but it was killer! The bathing suit and lack of lane lines was so tiring.
